Easter Seals and United Cerebral Palsy Prepare to meet the 21st Century TOGETHER

Easter Seals and United Cerebral Palsy of Central Illinois (UCP), two well known, local organizations each with a long history of serving children and adults with disabilities and their families, merged effective December 31, 1998. With a combined history of service to the heart of Illinois community spanning more than a century, the merger of Easter Seals and UCP creates a singularly strong and unified organization better able to deliver more comprehensive, cost effective programs in response to community needs. Steve Thompson, who has served as President and CEO of Easter Seals since 1986 was named to head the combined organization which, is now known as Easter Seals-UCP.

The merger initiative, which began in the spring of 1998 was based upon the recognition of a common mission and shared vision of both organizations helping children and adults with disabilities lead lives of equality, dignity, and independence. The merger will yield a wide variety of benefits, particularly through the further integration of services to infants and toddlers with disabilities. Notably, operational efficiencies are expected to result in the enhancement and further expansion of needed programs and services.

The name of the merged organization, Easter Seals-UCP signals a marriage of two organizations, each with a rich heritage of service and stewardship while creating the potential for a new, fresh, and exciting future. Easter Seals-UCP will continue to retain affiliation with both National Easter Seals as well as United Cerebral Palsy of America.

Easter Seals-UCP will provide services to children and adults with disabilities and their families throughout Central Illinois, including Peoria, Woodford, Fulton, Tazewell, McLean and Livingston Counties.
